Here I started with the simplest jobs: I printed and folded drawings, prepared simpler drawings, text documents, etc. myself. Everything was interesting to me, so I always tried to be at least one step ahead of what I should be according to my duties and invest as much time as possible in deepening my knowledge. I think this was the main reason why I managed to climb several steps and reach my current position. I am the type of person who constantly needs a challenge, which does not allow me to stand still.

Can you tell us more about the activities of the Vilnius Road Business Unit?

The team of the Vilnius Road Business Unit is made up of young, talented and promising people, so the Business Unit is capable of performing a wide range of design work – from small to very large projects. The team can not only carry out the repair project of a small street or gravel road, but also manage and carry out such works as the design of a two-level intersection, the design work of reconstruction of main roads, the design work of reconstruction of high-class city streets, etc. At the moment, half of the team of the Vilnius Roads Business Unit is facing major challenges in the preparation of the Rail Baltica project, and at the moment this project covers undoubtedly the largest part of the Business Unit’s activities.

Also, in our team we have a group that works on projects for the Swedish market. Work in this group requires knowledge of the English language and good skills in the Autodesk Civil 3D program.

You mentioned the Rail Baltica project, tell us more about it.

Currently, we work most of the time with LTG infra, RB Rail AS and clients with private capital, i.e. developers of shopping centers, etc. The main and biggest project at the moment is the Rail Baltica project mentioned above. In it, we design access and service roads near the railway, as well as all other roads that are crossed by the new railway line. All project solutions are prepared in the BIM environment.

Which projects were the most memorable and why?

If we talk about the most memorable project, I think it would be road no. A14 Vilnius – Utena from km 16.0 to km 21.5 reconstruction project. And the interesting thing is that during the preparation of the project, the road solutions were radically changed, which were implemented immediately after the preparation of the project, so it was not only interesting to design, but also to immediately observe and supervise the work taking place on the construction site, so that they were carried out exactly according to the solutions specified in the project. The road section being reconstructed was reconstructed from two traffic lanes to four, connecting roads were designed, and two two-level “bone” shaped roundabouts were also designed.

What challenges do you usually face in projects? How do you solve them?

There is certainly no shortage of challenges in this job, we face them every day. Most people probably think that the biggest challenges we face are the application of technical solutions in the project, but this is not true. The greatest effort must be made to legitimize the project so that the Customer following it can legally implement the construction works and hand over the object. Unfortunately, it often happens that the regulations contradict each other, go beyond logic, so it is often necessary to “turn your head” in order to get a construction permit for the project. In my opinion, the best way to solve a problem is teamwork, during which communication with colleagues generates more than one proposal to overcome the problem.

In your opinion, what is the recipe for a successful, harmonious team?

“Leader without a crown”, the aspiration to make every member of the team feel an integral part of the team, and of course, as much time spent with the team as possible in an informal environment.
